It’s worryingly easy for youngsters to buy alcohol in Switzerland. A study by the customs office showed nearly 30% of young people successfully bought alcoholic drinks from shops or street vendors.

16-year olds are allowed to buy beer, wine or cider in most parts of the country. You need to be 18 to buy stronger drinks. In Ticino you need to be 18 for any drink.
