Grandmother spends night in jail for CHF 300.-
A 75-year-old grandmother had to spend a night in jail due to a health insurance mix-up.
Sava Hagmann from Rapperswil in Sankt Gallen says the experience was horrifying and was strip searched before locked in a cell, which she says was so small she couldn’t even stretch out.
Her son heard the news and went to the jail to pay the CHF 300 fine. She had been sentenced to three days locked up.
He says he didn’t hear of her arrest until it was too late.
The elderly woman says she was pursued by a health insurance company for unpaid premiums, despite she telling them she had switched company.
