Canton Jura declares forest emergency
Canton Jura says it’s facing a forest emergency. More than 200,000 cubic meters of trees are dying.
The area has doubled from July. The canton says the trees are suffering due to two years of drought.
Dead trees near roads have been felled and some paths in the forest are closed as there are fears dead branches could fall without warning.
Beech trees are the most affected, but ash and coniferous trees are now also showing signs of stress.
