Drivers could pay pollution and healthcare costs in canton Zurich
Canton Zurich could significantly hike the car tax.

The cantonal government says traffic costs CHF 1.4bn with health care, damage to buildings, pollution and land use. Currently these costs are borne by the average tax payer.
The canton says the polluter should pay – that’s the driver.
The current road tax is not enough to cover the costs, so it seems likely it will have to rise.
The Swiss People’s Party and the Liberal Party are against the idea and it’s probable it will have to be approved in a referendum.
