Alpine wrestling festival begins in Zug
One of the biggest sporting events in Switzerland starts today.
The Federal Wrestling and Alpine Festival is held every three years in various locations and tens of thousands will be attending.
This year it’s in Zug and preparations have been going on for a while. A huge temporary stadium, seating 56,500 has been built. Over 300,000 are expected to attend this weekend.
The wrestling finalists are traditionally given live animals as prizes. The top prize is a four-year-old bull, but there are also cows and horses.
It starts today and ends Sunday. There’s also plenty to eat and drink – and plenty of time for that too as the bars don’t close until 3am.
