National News // By Tay Kinnear // Aug. 23, 2019

Lawyers representing an alleged pedophile are demanding his release as he has spent too much time in pre-trial detention.

The 65-year-old from Eastern Switzerland is accused of molesting girls aged between 5 and 12.

Judges are still considering the verdict after the case in Toggenburg in Sankt Gallen.

In court, the man was described as controlling and manipulative. He persuaded a mother to send him explicit pictures of her 7-year-old daughter.

He could be jailed for 15 years – but the defence says such a sentence would be absurd and says 4 years would be sufficient, but as he has already been in jail for that time – he should be released.

The verdict is due in the next few days.
