National News // By Tay Kinnear // Aug. 14, 2019

It seems Uber’s days operating in Geneva are numbered.

But other ride sharing services are safe for the time being.

The cantonal MP, Mauro Poggia, says the drivers are employed by the US company and should pay social security – but Uber says they’re independent.

He denies Uber is being singled out as other services such as Kapten and Lymo are not being investigated at the moment. Poggia says they’re newer and they will be checked as well. If the canton comes to the same conclusion, they will also be forced to comply or close.

The head of Uber Switzerland says the company may be forced out of the country all together.
