National News // By Tay Kinnear // Aug. 6, 2019

A week long environmental summit with hundreds of young people – including climate activist Greta Thunberg – is meeting in Lausanne.

The ‘Smile for the Future’ meeting is bringing together youth activists from around Europe.

The 450 delegates hope to persuade politicians to be more ambitious in cutting CO2 emissions with the aim to make the EU carbon neutral by 2035.

But some older Swiss politicians are critical of the youth movement – one Swiss People’s Party MP, Claudio Zanetti, tweeted the meeting was ‘politically-correct child abuse’.
