Passengers evacuated from funicular
Around 300 people had to be evacuated from the Niesenbahn funicular railway in canton Bern after a technical fault brought the train to a standstill and the backup system also failed.
Most were led down the mountain on foot. But 30 were too infirm to make the hike and were airlifted by helicopter.
The train stopped at an altitude of 2,300 meters on Wednesday afternoon.
The company says all the passengers reached the next station safely.
It’s the first time there’s been a major problem with the service in the last 10 years.
