Swiss doctors caught up in new language rules
Swiss doctors are being caught up in new regulations requiring foreign doctors to be able to prove they can speak the language properly before being able to practice.
The new rules in place from last year means a doctor has to have a language diploma to show they have sufficient command of the relevant language in the area they’re working in.
But Swiss qualified doctors are finding this difficult for them if they move to another language region. One doctor from the German speaking area is working in Ticino – and speaks fluent Italian, but has never taken a language test.
He says its ridiculous to apply the rules to Swiss qualified medical professionals.
