Geneva Pride March hailed success
The Pride March in Geneva on Saturday is being hailed as a success after 35,000 turned out in support of LGBTIQ rights.
The Geneva mayor, Sandrine Salerno, made a speech praising people who have been fighting for equal rights for the last 50 years.
Marches were held all over the world as this year’s event marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots in New York after police raided the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village in 1969.
The Swiss event moves form canton to canton every year – it’s the first time the parade has been held in Geneva since 2011.
