Call for more action on football hooligans
The Swiss Football Federation is under pressure to act after the weekend’s crunch match between Grasshopper Zurich and Lucerne had to be cancelled during the second half as Zurich fans threatened to invade the pitch.
The fans were outraged as the team was heading for defeat and relegation from the top league for the first time in 68 years.
Grasshoppers were down 4-0 against Lucerne and defeat seemed inevitable. The fans started calling on the players to take off their shirts as they were not worthy to wear them.
It’s the second time a Grasshopper game had to be abandoned due to fan violence. In March a game against Sion was called off after 56 minutes.
