Calls for restrictions on younger drivers
The Accident Prevention Office is calling for more restrictions on younger drivers to cut the number of accidents, including a ban on night and weekend driving and carrying passengers of a similar age.
The office says the numbers speak for themselves. There are more accidents involving younger drivers at night and at weekends and when the vehicle is full. This is especially true for young men.
It proposes restrictions on those under 25
But some politicians say the proposals are unworkable and unfair. They say it could restrict shift workers and it would be particularly difficult to differentiate between male and female drivers.
