Switzerland benefits most from single market
Everyone in Switzerland is around CHF 3,000 richer every year due to its membership of the EU’s single market – making this country the biggest beneficiary of the market compared to all other members.
Although the amount ranges widely across the EU, the study by the Bertelsmann Foundation shows every member benefits.
The study says the abolishing of tariffs and regulatory hurdles boosts trade and competition – and the single market has further potential in the services field.
In an irony – the biggest areas that benefit from the single market is Zurich and London. Zurich is not in the EU and London looks likely to leave.
