Court backs Swiss weapon trade transparency
The Federal Court has backed a journalist’s claim that the government has to publish information on which countries buy Swiss weapons.
A lower court had already agreed the information should be made public. The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs fought the decision, saying it should only be for the parliamentary oversight committee.
Judges ruled the information would not be harmful to Swiss interests.
Campaigners are collecting signatures for an initiative to stop arms exports to countries involved with wars.
