'Mind the Gap' no-deal Brexit strategy in place for UK Swiss workers
Switzerland and the UK have come to an agreement on how to treat workers in the case of a no-deal Brexit.
Both countries will have simplified systems for dealing with each other’s nationals – despite the end of free movement. Switzerland says it will continue to accept UK qualifications and cantons will not need to check with the federal government before issuing permits. Although the simplified regulations will be for a limited period.
In a statement yesterday, the Swiss government says the UK is an important economic and migratory partner and wants to ensure existing rights and obligations continue after Brexit.
It’s part of a strategy called ‘Mind the Gap’.
There have already been five agreements signed, which includes workers rights, trade and air transport.
