Less shoppers spending in France than predicted
A large-scale study to examine shopping habits of those living in the ‘Grand Genève’ region shows less money than expected is spent in France.
The survey was commissioned jointly by Swiss and French authorities.
The region takes in Geneva, canton Vaud to around Nyon, as well as neighboring France.
For many years businesses in Switzerland have been complaining shoppers are spending money in France due to lower costs and better opening times.
But it seems it’s lower than thought – and offset somewhat by French residents spending in Geneva. Out of every 100 euro spent, 9 is in France by Swiss residents and 5 in Switzerland by French residents.
Food is most likely to be bought in cross border shopping trips.
