Basel court fines man after terror 'joke'
A man has been fined and charged costs after he made a bad joke on a bus in Basel in May two years ago.
He pretended to be on the phone and was seemingly planning a terrorist attack and mentioned poison gas, explosives and weapons. The incident was only five days after the bomb in Manchester in England which killed 22 at an Ariane Grande concert.
The 26-year-old man, originally from Turkey, triggered a major police alert after passengers reported him.
The Basel City criminal court fined him CHF 3,000 – but he has also been ordered to pay the court costs of CHF 100,000.
