Police demand more traffic law lenience
Police unions in French speaking Switzerland are demanding a change in the traffic laws to give more protection to ‘blue light’ drivers.
Over the past few months, police drivers have found themselves personally liable for traffic offences when responding to emergency calls.
The unions say there should more leeway for those driving police vehicles, fire engines or ambulances when using the lights and sirens.
The head of Vaud cantonal police says courts are using a too narrow interpretation of strict traffic laws.
