Third class train carriages to be contemplated
Swiss trains should bring in third class carriages to allow more affordable travel.
That’s the conclusion from the Federal Office of Transport. Third class was abolished on trains in 1956.
According to reports in the NZZ newspaper yesterday, third class would have aircraft style seating to maximise capacity.
But not everyone thinks it’s a good idea. Unions say it would not lead to savings and only make the work of train staff harder.
Currently Swiss Federal Railways are bringing prices down by offering off-peak tickets.
