Train network expansion in discussion
Parliament is discussing a major expansion of the train network.
The plans include more suburban train services, increased frequency on many major routes and more non-stop trains between cities.
But it will cost CHF 13bn and the head of the railways is warning fares may have to go up. The government is estimating rises of up to 5%, but the head Andreas Meyer says it could be more.
If given the greenlight, the expansion programme will last for ten years from 2025.
