It’s a disease spread by mites and is similar to scabies.

It can affect humans and needs to be treated, but it is more dangerous for domestic dogs. It’s normally deadly for the fox.

The infection seems to be focused around Kloten. Local authorities are urging residents to take precautions and keep an eye on their dogs. They don’t need to come into direct contact with foxes, but the mite could spread through shared foraged food.

Dog owners should watch to see of their pet starts scratching too vigorously. If confirmed, the animal does need to be quarantined.
