Pig farmer faces animal welfare charges
A pig farmer in canton Thurgau will face criminal charges after inspectors found that over 2,000 piglets had been castrated without anesthesia and by someone not qualified to carryout the procedure.
It was also found the instruments being used had not been cleaned and the animals were being kept in unhygienic conditions.
The farmer had appealed to the Federal Court following a lower court ruling he had broken animal welfare laws.
The high court agreed he had – now he faces being fined by the cantonal veterinary office.
