Hard Brexit may limit Swiss residence permit numbers
The number of British citizens allowed to work in Switzerland will be limited if the UK crashes out of the EU at the end of March.
The Federal Council announced yesterday that no more than 3,500 UK nationals will be issued residence permits a year after March 30th. That will be divided up as no more than 2,100 ‘B’ permits and 1,400 ‘L’ permits.
The government points out that the Agreement on Free Movement of People will not apply to UK nationals after Brexit and they will be treated the same as all third country nationals.
But these limits will only apply in the case of a no deal Brexit.
The rights of UK nationals already living in Switzerland will not change.
