Assisted suicide numbers up from last year

National News // By Tay Kinnear // Feb. 13, 2019

The assisted suicide organization, Exit, says it helped 1,204 people end their lives last year – a leap of 23% on the year before.

It also has the highest membership in its history at over 120,000.

The most common reason for people to look for help to end their lives was terminal cancer.

Exit is one of two assisted suicide groups in the country – and it only helps either Swiss citizens or long-term Swiss residents.

The other group, Dignitas, also helps people from abroad.
