Pond coin haul deemed legal
Three women in Lucerne will not be prosecuted after police determined it is legal to take money thrown into the pond by the world-famous Lion monument.
The women decided to boost their income at night by wading in the pond and taking out the coins thrown in by tourists. Their haul was much bigger than they expected. On the first night they got CHF 400 and the second CHF 600.
They used the money to buy goggles and continued their hunt.
Lawyers have advised police that when someone throws a coin into the water, they give up their claim to the money. There isn’t even a local law banning wading in the pool.
