While the world watched the US government shutdown with shock and dismay – there’s now another one.

The town of Olten in canton Solothurn.

The local government is unable to agree a budget – and some services have come to a stop.

The town’s ice rink is closed and some school bus services have stopped. The local orchestra is silent.

Essential services, such as the police, are continuing.

It’s the second time in five years the town has closed due to budget problems.

In true Swiss fashion – the solution will end with the people. Voters will decide on March 24th whether release more money to the government. Until then, the ice rink will be deserted.
