The Federal Health Office says the danger of tick-borne diseases is high right across the country.

Only two cantons are deemed safe - Geneva and Ticino. But the office says those residents should also get vaccinated against encephalitis.

The best time to get the jab is now, say experts. That ensures the vaccine is fully functioning by spring time. The most dangerous time of the year is from April to October.

The rate of tick-borne encephalitis is rising with 380 cases last year. It can be fatal.

Walkers should also wear long trousers and sleeves and use insect repellant.
