Gender pay gap widening

Despite efforts to close the gender pay gap – new figures from the Federal Statistics Office show it’s widening.

On average, men earned 19.6% more than women in 2016 – four years before it was 19.5%.

The difference is around CHF 650 a month.

Researchers say some of the discrepancy can be explained by continual length of service and qualifications. But in almost half of cases, there’s no obvious explanation.
