SUV obsession increasing CO2 production

National News // By Tay Kinnear // Jan. 31, 2019

A survey by the Tages Anzeiger newspaper shows motorists produced more CO2 last year than the previous year – after several years of decline.

The main reasons is we’re buying less efficient 4-wheel drive cars – and moving away from diesel.

After the ‘dieselgate’ scandal, many new buyers are opting for petrol engines – which do produce more CO2.

But it’s our love of SUVs which is the main driver of pollution. Half of new cars sold in the country are 4-wheel drive – which consume 10% more fuel.
