Geneva police charged with car chase speeding fine
The Federal Court has upheld a speeding fine against a Geneva police officer while on a car chase.
The officer was attempting to catch up with two men who had robbed an ATM, hoping to reach them before they crossed the French border.
The car was flashed twice – once at 30 kph over the limit, the second time at 42 over.
The court ruled the first offence was justified in the circumstances, but the second was excessive. Judges say the police can speed if lives are in danger, but this wasn’t the case in this instance.
The officer will have to pay a CHF 600 fine.
