Pakistani politician praises Swiss driving fines on Facebook

National News // By Tay Kinnear // Jan. 17, 2019

A Pakistani politician visiting Switzerland has posted praise on his Facebook page after getting speeding fines from canton Lucerne.

Facebook Pakistani politician praises Swiss driving fines on Facebook

He says it shows how organized Switzerland is and urges his fellow countrymen to show the same level of precision.

Arbab Farooq is from the Assembly of Islamic Clerics, which is Pakistan’s fifth largest party and has 15 seats in the parliament.

He says he will pay the fines as he’s a law-abiding citizen. But he’s likely to be in for a shock. Although he has two bills for CHF 122, that’s only the administrative fee. He was flashed on an autoroute at 142, in an 80 zone and then again at 117 in a 100.

The final decision has to go to court. The fines are likely to add up to more than a CHF 1,000 and probably a Swiss driving ban.
