Private jet politician, Maudet, survives no confidence vote
The embattled Geneva politician Pierre Maudet has survived a vote of no confidence by his party.
Maudet has admitted to lying about taking a private jet owned by a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family after suggesting a private holiday was paid for by a friend.
At an Extraordinary General Assembly, PLR party members voted by a majority of 341 to 312 to support him.
But the party is split – several senior members, including the chairman Alexandre de Senarclens, resigned in protest.
But others are now calling for unity amid fears the Liberal party could split. Maudet has in the past been touted as a possible Federal Council member.
