Experts split on dashcam legal question
Legal experts and privacy advocates are set to clash over the use of dashcam footage in courts.
The Swiss data commissioner, Adrian Lobsiger, says use of private videos is against data protection laws – and monitoring traffic is a job for the police.
But some legal minds disagree. A cantonal prosecutor in Zurich says the videos can contain crucial evidence.
Dashcam use is becoming increasingly common as drivers believe the evidence maybe helpful in disputed insurance claims.
The issue could be settled later this year when the Supreme Court will rule on a dangerous driving case.
