No-deal Brexit agreement outlined between UK and Switzerland
The Swiss government has agreed the outlines of a trade deal with the UK to make sure the two countries can continue their close business links after Brexit – including flights.
Although Switzerland is in the EU’s single market – it’s not in the Customs Union.
The deal will only be needed if the UK crashes out of the EU in March next year. If the withdrawal agreement is passed by the UK parliament there will be a transition period for two years when all the current agreements will remain in place.
The two countries are also due to sign a deal to make sure flights can continue to operate in case of a no-deal Brexit. Nearly 7m people travel between the UK and Switzerland every year.
