Pressure building on government to sign Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty
Parliament is putting pressure on the government to sign the Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty adopted by the UN in 2017.

The government has been lukewarm to the treaty, despite having a role in its preparation. It says the treaty is weak as those countries which have nuclear weapons have not signed it.
The Council of States, the upper house of parliament, has adopted a motion sent to it by the lower house calling on the government to sign.
MPs say Switzerland needs to sign the treaty to underline its commitment to international humanitarian law.
