It doesn’t look like Geneva will be getting a commuter cable car after all.

There was initial enthusiasm for the project when it was first mooted. The gondolas would run from Bardonnex to the airport. Many say it was the perfect solution to reduce traffic, it was clean and cheap to build compared to a new tram.

But since then, there have been worries about the privacy of residents as their homes and gardens would be in full gaze of the passengers.

A committee has narrowly voted against releasing CHF 3m for a study – the privacy concerns being the main reason.
