A cat has been rescued from a road tunnel near Lugano in Ticino after being trapped in air vents for the past two weeks.

It’s thought the cat had been riding in a car’s engine compartment and jumped out in the tunnel.

It was first spotted 15 days ago – but then wasn’t seen again. It was thought it had managed to escape. But then another driver saw the cat and reported it.

Rescuers immediately entered the tunnel and set a trap with bait. The cat was so hungry, it only took a couple of hours for it to be caught.

The disheveled moggie has now been checked by a vet – and although malnourished, it will make a full recovery.
