Remains of missing climber, 1965, finally found
Police have identified the remains of a climber found in August.
Hikers came across a backpack and a thigh bone in canton Valais.
In the backpack was a ticket dated from 1965.
After press reports at the time, a family in Germany realized there is a chance the missing person is a relative, a 22-year-old pharmacy student.
After DNA tests, police confirmed the link.
The man was originally from Dortmund and went missing in 1965. A search was launched at the time. He was taking a mountaineering course and decided to take a walk despite bad weather.
The man was officially pronounced dead in 1977. Now his family says they can have a proper funeral.
