University of Zurich suffers ongoing cyber-attack
The University of Zurich is suffering a sustained cyber-attack.
For the last several months, students and staff have been sent an email which seems to come from the university which then takes them to a log-in page which looks exactly like the official university’s own page.
If the user enters the password, then the hackers will have access.
The aim seems to be industrial espionage. The security firm Kaspersky says it’s to steal scientific know-how.
It’s not just Zurich University. Similar attacks are underway at universities across the world. But this level of attack is unusual due to its persistence.
The Swiss federal cyber-crime unit is investigating.
