Climate change means some mountains are at risk as permafrost melts.

There are over 300 sites being watched. Some 24 hours a day with electronic sensors.

The recent heavy rains are also adding to the danger.

The sites being watched are those which could cut off villages, destroy roads or buildings.

Newspapers reports yesterday revealed that Bern alone is checking 131 sites and a further 63 in Valais.

Many cantons refuse to publish which areas are at risk – as they don’t want to spread panic.
