Lausanne protests anti-begging laws
Several hundred demonstrated in Lausanne last night to protest at new anti-begging laws.
Beggars could now be fined CHF 100. The protestors carried banners saying ‘begging is not a crime’. And complained the poorest are now criminalized.
Begging has been limited in the city for some time. Beggars were not allowed near cash machines or on public transport. But the new laws go further.
The Federal Court has already ruled a ban on begging does not violate European Human Rights laws.
