Zurich airport holds asylum seekers for past seven weeks
Twenty Kurdish asylum seekers have been trapped in the transit area of Zurich airport for the past seven weeks.
Eight men, four women and eight teens and children are living in two rooms without windows.
While the length of time is unusual, the airport has facilities to accommodate 58 people who are unable to enter the country. They have access to medical facilities and can get fresh air on the terrace.
They’re waiting for their applications to be heard. Even if a decision is not made soon they’re hoping to be moved to an asylum seeker’s centre elsewhere.
