Cost of becoming Swiss to be investigated
The cost of becoming Swiss varies widely across the country.
There is a federal law designed to stop cantons and communes from charging what they like.
But authorities can charge an administrative fee – and that can vary.
Research by the Matin Dimanche newspaper shows it may cost as much as CHF 3,000 in canton Fribourg to CHF 550 in Vaud.
A closer average is around CHF 1,500.
An investigation has been launched to decide if the prices are justified.
