Thieves target grave-visiting elderly in Bern
Bern is being hit by a particularly low crime – robbing elderly people visiting graves.
Police are now patrolling cemeteries after several old ladies had their handbags stolen. The thieves wait for the moment they place the bags on the ground to lay flowers or tidy the grave – then grab them and run off.
The victim is left powerless to react.
It’s common at this time of year for relatives to tidy graves ready for the winter.
After a series of reports, police are now mounting regular patrols of the grave yards
Posters are being placed to warn visitors of the danger.
