The Senate has passed a motion calling for all legal hurdles for autonomous vehicles to be removed.

The laws will need to be changed to allow drivers to take their hands off the steering wheel and to allow cameras on the car to record the surroundings. Actions that are illegal at the moment.

Parliamentarians say the technology is moving rapidly and fear the country could be left behind.

The government says it’s receptive to the plan.
