Speeding bikes kibosh lane experiment in Geneva

National News // Sept. 19, 2018

Speeding motorcycles are being blamed for the ending of an experiment to allow bikers to use bus lanes in Geneva.

For the past year, two bus lanes have been opened for motorcycles – around la Praille and on the road to Ferney. It was hoped to allow bikes to use all the bus lanes in the city.

But the experiment will end in October and not be extended. The canton wanted to see if traffic and safety would be improved.

But bikers tended to speed in the lanes and there was no noticeable improvement in the jams.
