Canton Schwyz clamps down on those seeking deliberate jail time
With winter on the way, some homeless people would prefer to spend the season in jail than on the streets.
This is especially true for some asylum seekers who plan to commit a crime to get a few months behind bars.
Authorities in canton Schwyz are aware of the plan – and are trying to stop it.
For those in shelters, they have to leave at 9am every morning and have an allowance of only 10 francs a day.
But the canton is trying to make it difficult for them. One shop-lifted and was sentenced to a few months in jail – but the court ordered he should report to serve his time in the spring.
