Rapist sentence appeal could backfire

National News // Aug. 30, 2018

A 42-year-old rapist is appealing his sentence – and he could find himself behind bars for longer.

Luis Argerich Rapist sentence appeal could backfire

The man from Birsfelden in Basel was convicted last year for drugging and raping at least five women, and filming the act. Police found 8 TB of pornographic material on his computer. For months police tried to track down and identify his victims.

A Basel court sentenced him to 12 years in jail – but he has yet to start the sentence as he’s in secure psychiatric care.

The defence is arguing the time in care should be considered as part of his jail time. But it’s thought the court may decide to extend the sentence instead.

The hearing is later today.
