Protestors call for an end to violence against women

National News // By Rebecca Karmazyn // Aug. 13, 2018

Hundreds of people have taken part in demonstrations over the weekend, demanding an end to violence against women.

The protests followed a brutal attack on five women last week in Geneva as they left a nightclub in the early hours of the morning. The women were set upon by a group of men in the centre of the city – two of the women were seriously injured and one is still in a coma.

Demonstrations took place yesterday afternoon in Lausanne, Bern, Basel and Zurich. The protests were organized by the Swiss Socialist Youth (JSS) to show indignation about the attacks.

A spokesperson for the group said that the attacks in Geneva are unacceptable and called for issues of sexism and discrimination to be an integral part of the school curriculum. This weekend’s protests follow a rally of ‘indignation’ in Geneva last Thursday.
